• Purpose, Function, and Users
• The DAM was designed to be a museum of fine arts serving the Denver area. It is run by a non-profit organization that is separate from the City of Denver. While the DAM is most noted for its expansive collection of Native American art, it also contains works from the world over. Around 450,000 people per year enjoy the distinctive architectural elements of the DAM, as well as the collections housed within.

  The North Building of the DAM. This building has 24 sides and was designed to resemble a castle. One notable aspect of this building is that the exterior is covered with over a million reflective grey glass tiles specially created by Dow Corning.

  High Contrast B&W of the Hamilton Building. The building exterior is made from titanium and glass, and I think this image provides an excellent detail of the texture created by these materials.

In this drawing I attempted to capture the way the extreme angles of the Hamilton building exterior dynamically interact with light, causing some sections to be in shadow.

  Aerial View of the DAM and nearby areas. The museum is part of Denver's Civic System Cultural Complex, and is thus surrounded by many cultural and recreation attractions, as well as loft living.

• In this video Libeskind describes how the building was designed from the inside out, and how the interior spaces were intentionally designed to enhance the the art viewers' experiences.

• My mother has personally visited the Museum complex several times, and describes it as, "An interesting fusion of old and new architecture, contemporary, Southwest, and Western Art. Set in an interesting contemporary plaza surrounded by loft living.

• I noticed that the angular nature of the inside of the Hamilton Building allowed different galleries and art spaces be dynamically lit and arranged in such a way that the aesthetics of the building itself enhance the art.

• In this video of the interior of the Hamilton Building, one aspect that really stood out to me was how the windows of the building provide lots of brilliant natural light that plays very well with the angles of the interior.

• In viewing this Flickr what really jumped out at me was how the varying materials in the construction of the North Building and the Hamilton Building interplay, the grey glass of the North Building being reminiscent of the titanium of the Hamilton Building without being exactly the same.
